North Central Wisconsin Area Health Education Center (NCAHEC) and Marshfield Clinic are sponsoring a health careers camp for high school students residing in the NCAHEC service area who are interested in pursuing a health career. The North Central WI Area Health Education Center service area includes the following counties: Chippewa, Clark, Dunn, Eau Claire, Marathon, Pepin, Pierce, Portage, Taylor, Waupaca, and Wood. Camp activities will be held all around the Wausau area, Marshfield, and Stevens Point. Students will be staying at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus. A $100.00 camp reservation fee is due upon notification of acceptance to this camp. (Financial assistance available, if needed). In addition to the online student application and essay, there are online teacher reference forms that must be completed by two of the student’s high school teachers, one of whom must be a Math or Science teacher and the other an English or Fine Arts teacher. NAHEC Career Compass Curriculum: A Tool for Exploring Health Occupations or Creating a Mentorship Program

A Health Career Curriculum designed and tested for the Northern Wisconsin Area Health Education Center (NAHEC) by the St. Croix Regional Medical Center in St. Croix Falls, WI, is being offered for purchase. It includes all materials used in a successful mentorship program. Most documents are in MS Word and can be customized by the purchasing agency. Some documents are in pdf format and must be replicated by the purchaser. After payment, the curriculum is emailed. Sample Letters, Brochures, Forms, Agendas, Posters, and Events are included. It is an excellent resource for schools, health projects, and organizations involved in exploring health careers and mentoring activities. Cost: $50.00. Statewide Educational Offerings in Health and Medicine

The Northern Wisconsin Area Health Education Center has developed a statewide listings of educational offerings in health/medical topics and other courses of interest to health professionals. Searching is possible by date, topic, and location. There is also an online course section.

Choosing Environmental Health As A Career?

Trained professionals in this career provide research, technical information, inspection and consultation services for many industries and agencies. Medical Careers: Behind the Scenes

At the recent 4H & Youth Conference, participants had a chance to learn about careers in health care. Students from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health gave presentations on education for careers in health care, how the body works, physcial examination skills, suturing, and a final tour of MedFlight, UW Hospital's helicopter. The turnout was fantastic and the reviews were great; we look forward to running the same workshop for next year's conference. The program is sponsored by both the UWSMPH Department of Family Medicine and the Wisconsin Medical Society.
